The gentleness of Craniosacral Therapy makes it a safe, suitable treatment throughout pregnancy. Some studies suggest that maternal stress can be picked up by the unborn child, so it seems that helping the mother-to-be stay as calm, relaxed and happy as possible should be an important consideration at this time.
Regular craniosacral treatments are a great way to enhance the health and well-being of the pregnant woman, helping her to reduce physical and emotional stresses and tensions. Yoga and meditation can be highly beneficial, too, and many of my clients have found that maternity reflexology treatments are an excellent adjunct to their sessions with me.
During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, when physical changes become more pronounced, pain and discomfort are often experienced by the mother-to-be as her body adapts to accommodate the developing baby. The diaphragm and pelvic floor come under particular strain, and the normal functioning of the internal organs can be affected as they become compressed inside the abdominal cavity.
Craniosacral Therapy can help the woman’s body deal with the physical changes by releasing tensions in the fascia (connective tissue), thereby increasing the freedom of movement for muscles and organs, allowing improved circulation of the blood and relieving pressure on spinal nerves.
A greater sense of ease in her body will also assist the mother-to-be on an emotional level in preparing to give birth, so she can approach the process with a more positive, joyful and relaxed attitude.
